Lets talk about some traffic etiquette.
I'm sitting in traffic which is bumper to bumper three lines wide. This already is not a position I want to be in after being at my miserable job...k?! When traffic creeeeeeeps further along, I see what the problem is, an accident which is funneling all the traffic into one lane on the far left.
I have no problem when people turn on their turn signal the moment they are able to view what is causing the jam to get over in the appropriate lane right?! What I DO have a problem with is the people who you see FLYING by you to try and get ahead withouth their turn signal and then want to get over at the very last minute. Umm no- I don't think so buddy! You saw this accident way before and are just being a jerk :) I'm not letting you over!
Now becuase I extend the same courtesy to others of "see the accident, turn on your blinker, come on over" I dare to expect the same! Yesterday I was in the furtherest right lane. I see the accident and immediately start to merge to the next lane. THis person, thank you to whomever you are, let me over immediately. Then a little bit closer I find that I have to get over again due to the blockage from the cops and ambulance. I turn on my turn signal and try to get over. A lady who had later on crossed over behind me crosses over again from seeing the accident. So she OBVISOULY knows that the lanes are being funneled in to one. Seeing my signal she speeds UP. Doesn't let me over.
ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? I mean seriously. What is your problem. We are all stuck in this stupid traffic jam together. Can't we be polite and let everyone over in an orderly fashion?
I try again to merge over.... SHE SPEEDS UP--- OH NO SHE DIDN"T! yes... she did!
I can't fathom what goes through people's minds during this time. Are you thinking its funny? Are you thinking that I dont DESERVE to move over even though I put my turn signal on the same time you did!?!? DO you think by not letting ME over that you are going to get so much further ahead?
OK... third time is the charm. Maybe she is just blind and somehow is still able to drive a vehicle.
Yea... NO. Again speeds up and doesn't let me over.
Ok... my dad taught me defensive driving! I speed up as much as I can and wait. There were opportunites for me to get over but I tell you... ITS WAR now with this lady!
As soon as I see her coming up a poke my nose in her lane. To continue forward she'd have to hit me. I then probably take at least 5 minutes to completely move my car over... making her (and sorry to those behind me) wait while I fully switch in to her lane :) Petty I know, but it made me giggle!
So in conclusion people, when you see someone who is legitimately trying to get over in a traffic jam to their exit or to continue moving due to a lane closure LET THEM OVER! They are making an honest effort to get over in time to sit in traffic with you instead of speeding up to the end of the line to slip in.
OK moving on to space left between cars..... Can someone please tell me why people find it necessary to leave a full cars+ length in front of them when stopped at a red light? Like seriously, do you need that much space? Leaving that much space makes the line of cars further back which could infact prohibit a driver from merging in to the turning lane where they can by pass the light or traffic jam. But beacuse you have some idiotic sense of security of having a thousand feet in front of you, we ALL have to suffer?!?! Cheers and Chicken Wraps* |
